Testosterone Cypionate

Testosterone Cypionate 300 or Test Cypionate (with the brand name Depo-Testosterone) is available as an injection and is most commonly used as a replacement for testosterone, the male sex hormone. Test Cypionate is an anabolic and androgenic steroid (AAS), which is given as an injection either into the muscle or subcutaneously once every one to four weeks, depending upon the medical state.

This drug is a synthetic androgenic and anabolic steroid and hence acts as an agonist of the androgen receptor (AR), which is the biological target of androgens like testosterone and DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). It is one of the most commonly used testosterone esters along with testosterone enanthate, testosterone undecanoate and testosterone propionate.

Test Cypionate is widely used in the treatment of male impotency (inability to reproduce), to provoke puberty in boys suffering from delayed puberty, in hormone therapy of transgender men, and inoperable breast cancer in women.

What is Testosterone Cypionate?

Testosterone Cypionate is a synthetic Androgenic and Anabolic steroid (AAS). It is a testosterone ester and acts as a long-lasting prodrug of testosterone in the body. It has very strong androgenic effects and mild anabolic effects, making it more suitable to induce masculinization and to be used in androgen replacement therapy.

It is available only as an injectable solution that can be administered into the muscle as well as subcutaneously. Test Cypionate is a prescription drug and it should not be used on your own unless prescribed by your doctor.

It is advised to take this medication under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner in a clinical or hospital setting. However, it is also self-injectible – you can administer this drug on your own after your doctor shows you how to do so.

Testosterone Cypionate mimics or imitates the functions of the male sex hormone, testosterone. Hence, it is used widely to treat men who either lack or have a very low testosterone level in their body (hypogonadism).

History Of Testosterone Cypionate

Test Cypionate was initially synthesized in the year 1951 and then introduced for medical use in the same year under the brand name Depo-Testosterone.

It was initially used in the treatment of hypogonadism (the lack of or low testosterone levels in the body) and delayed puberty in boys.

The generic name of the drug is also Testosterone Cypionate (though sometimes known as test cypionate), which is also its USP (United States Pharmacopoeia). This drug does not have an INN, USAN or BAN. It is also sometimes referred to as testosterone cipionate, testosterone cyclopentylpropionate or testosterone cyclopentanepropionate.

Test Cypionate is marketed under a wide variety of brand names including Andronate, Deposteron, Depotest, Depo Virin, Duratest and Virilion among others. However, among these, Depo-testosterone is the most common brand name.

Chemical Structure

Testosterone Cypionate, also known as 17β-cyclopentylpropionate is a synthetic androgenic and anabolic steroid, a derivative of testosterone. It is generally an androgen ester, but specifically, it is the C17β cyclopentylpropionate (cypionate) ester of testosterone.

Test Cypionate acts as an agonist of the androgen receptor (AR), which is the biological target of androgens like testosterone and DHT (Dihydrotestosterone). It is one of the most commonly used testosterone esters along with testosterone enanthate, testosterone undecanoate and testosterone propionate.

Method of Administration

Testosterone Cypionate is available only in the form of injection and it can be administered either intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Generally, it is advised to be administered by a registered medical practitioner in a clinical or hospital setting. But, it is also self-injectable. That is, you can give your injection on your own at home, once the doctor shows you how to do so.

When administered into the muscle, testosterone cypionate can be given in the upper arm as well as in the upper thigh. However, testosterone cypionate exhibits the best results when it is administered into the gluteal muscles (buttocks muscle).

Before administering the medication, check your vial for any visible particles, discolouration or any other damage. If found, DO NOT take this medication and consult your pharmacist regarding its state. While administering the drug, follow all the guidelines given by your doctor.

Note: While self-administering this medication, always inject it into the muscle and do not inject it into the vein.

Benefits of Test Cypionate
